In commemoration of the International Women's Day 2025, the Jigawa State Government, in partnership with UNICEF, has launched a training program for 600 women.

This initiative is part of UNICEF's global Generation Unlimited movement, aimed at connecting young people with skills, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship pathways.

The program, which aligns with the state's commitment to environmental sustainability, waste-to-wealth, and women empowerment initiatives, will equip women with the skills to upcycle plastic straps into marketable products.

This innovative approach addresses plastic waste management and climate change mitigation, while promoting women's economic empowerment.

According to the wife of the state governor Amina Namadi, Women are agents of change in their families, communities, and beyond, hence the initiative reinforces the collective commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation, and women's empowerment.

In his remarks, the Managing Director, Jigawa State Environmental Protection Agency, Adamu Sabo, stressed the importance of women’s inclusion in environmental sustainability.

The theme of this year's International Women's Day is "Rights. Equality. Empowerment. Equal rights. Equal opportunities. Equal power".
