Stakeholders Urged to Advocate for Family Planning in Jigawa

As the world marked International Women's Day, stakeholders in Jigawa State have been advised to prioritize family planning as a key factor in empowering women and girls.

The call was made during a workshop organized by Development Communications Network (Devecomes)-The Challenge Initiative (TCI) for media practitioners in Dutse, Jigawa State, on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

The workshop aimed to sensitize media practitioners on the importance of family planning and its impact on women's health, education, and economic empowerment.

DEVCOMS Programme Director, Akin Jimoh emphasized that family planning is crucial in reducing maternal and child mortality, improving women's health, and promoting economic growth.

He urged to use their platforms to advocate for family planning, challenge myths and misconceptions surrounding it, and promote positive behavioral change among their audiences.

"By advocating for family planning, stakeholders in Jigawa State can contribute to a healthier, more empowered, and prosperous society for women and girls" Akin stated. 

Hajiya Hauwa Halliru, a woman advocate in the state, said child spacing is crucial for married women with a view to have better health and stand strong. 

She said as the themed accelerate action, Hauwa urged women to embrace development through action despite the level of understanding of family planning in the state.  She then urged policy makers to increase fund for family planning commodities as there is in adequate product across the health centers in the state.
