Jigawa Women Calls for Free Contraceptives on Safe Motherhood Day

As Jigawa State DEVCOMS and The Challenge Initiative (TCI) commemorates Safe Motherhood Day, women are speaking out about the challenges they face in accessing family planning services. The main concern is the unavailability of free contraceptives, which has led to frustration and financial burden.
Women at Kudai and Kachi Primary Healthcare Centres in Dutse shared their experiences. Mrs. Maryam Abubakar expressed her concerns about the cost of visiting hospitals and buying contraceptives from pharmacies. She appealed to the government and voluntary organizations for support.
Mrs. Karimatu Sani, a mother of three, shared her experience of being given expired contraceptives. She prayed for the hospital to restock with safe and free commodities.
A service provider, Mrs. Amina Sulaiman, confirmed the hospital's stock shortage and appealed for free commodities to alleviate the economic burden on women.
Many rural men and women in Jigawa State are becoming aware of family planning services and are utilizing them for health, economic, and moral reasons. The demand for accessible and affordable contraceptives is growing, and women are calling on the government to take action.
As Jigawa State celebrates Safe Motherhood Day, women are urging the government to provide free contraceptives and improve access to family planning services.
