N10 Billion for Solar at the Villa: Not Fair to Nigerians

By Kamalu Aliyu, Bauchi
The decision to spend N10 billion on solar installation at the Presidential Villa is nothing short of a huge insult to all Nigerians who endure daily power shortages.
How can a government that promised constant electricity now proceed to spend billions just to ensure uninterrupted power for themselves? If those in Aso Rock no longer believe in the national grid, what hope is there for the rest of us? Are they indirectly admitting that stable power is no longer a national priority?
Nigerians are buying fuel, repairing generators, and sleeping in darkness every night. Businesses are collapsing, students struggle to study without light, and citizens suffer due to unreliable electricity. Instead of fixing the national power problem, our leaders are focused on their own comfort.
That N10 billion could have brought solar energy to rural communities or strengthened our failing power infrastructure. But no—it’s Aso Rock first, and the people last.
This shows that the government has chosen to insulate itself while abandoning the citizens. It’s not just unfair; it’s an insult. How can you make promises, fail to deliver, and still expect praise?
The reality is this: if our leaders cannot endure the same power challenges as the people they serve, then they have failed in leadership. Spending billions on personal comfort while the nation suffers is not governance—it is betrayal. Nigerians, we must rise and demand accountability.
