The Jigawa State Government's recent launch of the Unified New Improvement of Teaching and Education (Jigawa UNITE) initiative has received commendation from Nafisa Halliru, a member of the Jigawa Education Accountability Forum (JEAF) and the gender office of NetJiC. The initiative aims to transform the state's education sector by improving the quality of public primary education.
According to Halliru, the Ministry for Basic Education is doing a great job in collaborating with New Globe to provide training for teachers to improve learning outcomes. She suggested that further trainings should be split into sections to address specific needs and gaps identified during pre-tests.
The Jigawa UNITE programme will provide teachers with training and digital tools to enhance their teaching skills. Over 1,449 teachers and 250 head teachers will participate in an intensive induction programme, which includes the use of tablets preloaded with structured lessons and performance-tracking software.
The Acting Managing Director of Jigawa UNITE, Olusanya Omojola, stated that the programme seeks to transform the education system by equipping teachers with the necessary skills and support to deliver stronger, more consistent instruction.
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Lawan Yunusa Danzomo, hailed the programme as life-changing, urging benefiting teachers to take advantage of the opportunity to hone their skills. The programme is expected to improve learning outcomes and modernize classroom instruction for thousands of pupils in the state.
