Governor Mallam Umar Namadi was greeted by a mammoth crowd on Sunday in Hadejia Local Government Area, as residents lined the major streets to extend a warm welcome during his visit for the citizens' engagement programme (Gwamnati Da Jama’a).
The governor commenced his visit with a courtesy call at the Emir of Hadejia's Palace, where a special durbar was organized in his honour.
The ‘Gwamnati Da Jama’a’ programme, introduced earlier this year by the Jigawa state government, is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and dialogue between the government and the citizens it serves, as high-ranking officials took turns presenting their respective ministries’ and offices’ accomplishments to the public in each local government area visited.
In his remarks at the event, Governor Namadi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Hadejia for their overwhelming show of love and support for his administration, describing the reception as exceptional.
"I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Hadejia Emirate for this great honor bestowed upon us. Your Royal Highness, since the time we entered Hadejia, we spent nearly one and a half hours before we reached the palace due to the large number of people who came to welcome us.
Today, I have been shown that I am indeed in the Hadejia Emirate. I am truly grateful. May God preserve our bonds.”
The governor highlighted several significant projects currently being undertaken by the state government in Hadejia Local Government Area, including the construction of a new permanent site for the School of Nursing in Hadejia, the completion of the Hadejia Specialist Hospital, an ambitious water project aimed at enhancing access to clean water in Hadejia, numerous road projects in progress across the area, and the employment of 265 youths in various sectors.
Assuring the residents of Hadejia, Governor Namadi stated that his administration is committed to fulfilling the wishes outlined by the community as documented and submitted by local leaders at the event.
Governor Namadi explained that the purpose of the Citizens Engagement program is to engage with the people who elected them and update them on the administration’s achievements over the past two years.
“The purpose of this initiative is, as a government and as community leaders whom the people have elected to represent them, by the grace of God, we have been in power for two years, and it seems appropriate for us to return to the people who elected us to inform them about what God has enabled us to do for them during these two years,” he said.
“During the election, we made various promises to the people. Therefore, we felt it was appropriate to go back and outline to them the matters: among the promises we made, which ones has God given us the ability to fulfill, and which ones will we undertake in the future.”
“Another point is that it will allow us to meet with our people in various parts of the state, to interact and strengthen our bonds. Thank God, in the local governments we have visited, people accepted us with open arms, showing their trust and acceptance.”
“At the Emir's Palace, the Emir of Hadejia praised the governor's efforts, stating, 'Your Excellency, it is your actions that stand out clearly.' It is your deeds that people praise. It is your efforts that bring joy to the people."
He called on the people to continue supporting the governor in order to sustain the good projects being carried out throughout the state.
“Thank God, as you have witnessed, you have confirmed that our leader, the Governor of Jigawa State, is doing his utmost, and you agree that he is indeed doing so. Everyone who enters the town of Hadejia has witnessed the peace and tranquility that prevails.”
Highlights of the event include the presentation of a compiled document outlining the collective needs of the Hadejia Local Government Area by community leaders as well as the presentation of gifts to the governor by various societal groups as a form of expressing their appreciation for Governor Namadi's commitment to developmental projects throughout the state.
During this visit, the governor commissioned the Danmodi Special School for the Talented, constructed by the Hadejia Local Government Chairman, as well as a Primary Healthcare Center established by the senator representing the Jigawa Northeast constituency.
