Last year's heavy rainfall led to devastating floods in 21 local government areas of Jigawa State, displacing hundreds of thousands of people. Many households in Tsakuwawa community, Miga local government, were forced to seek shelter at the Tsakuwawa primary school.

Despite the challenges, five women from the community decided to continue their home trade in the camp. They bravely carried on with their businesses, producing groundnut oil and cake, vegetables, fried fish, and other essential commodities.

The women are Hajara Garba tsakuwawa, Fatima Garba, Amina Dala Maigari, Asabe Isiya, and Sumayya Adamu who engaged in different trades in the camp.

Skylink TV featured the inspiring story of these women, highlighting their resilience and determination. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hadiza T. Abdulwahab, was impressed by their entrepreneurial spirit and decided to support them.

Abdulwahab discovered that the women were taking loans to finance their businesses and decided to provide each of them with N50,000 as capital. The women were grateful for the commissioner's support and promised to utilize the funds for their businesses.

This initiative is a testament to the Jigawa State Government's commitment to empowering women and supporting small-scale entrepreneurs. Many women in the Hausa community have mastered various home trades, providing essential goods and services to their communities.

The Jigawa State Government, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) under the executive secretary of the Agency Dr. Haruna Mairiga, has also provided assistance to those affected by the floods across the state.
