The Jigawa State Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Accountability Forum (JiMAF) has raised concerns over the feeding of in-patients in some health facilities across the state.

A recent investigation conducted by JiMAF revealed that 12 primary health centers, including two cottage hospitals, were not providing food for in-patients, leaving them to cater for themselves.

The investigation also found that about 80% of the food served to patients in other facilities was of low quality and quantity. Additionally, many contractors were not providing the required food, while some facilities' kitchens remained closed for extended periods.

Isah Mustapha Ag. cochair JiMAF called on the Ministry of Health to strengthen its monitoring and supervisory mechanisms for health facility feeding. The group also urged the government to include the 12 affected primary health centers in its feeding program and to direct contractors to abide by their contract agreements.

Mustapha further recommended the establishment of an independent agency to monitor project and service delivery, citing concerns over inefficiencies in service delivery.

JiMAF's findings and recommendations aim to improve the quality of healthcare services in Jigawa State and ensure that in-patients receive adequate nutrition during their stay in health facilities.
