Yobe Govt' to revitalised agricultural sector

Yobe state government has restated its commitment towards improving food productivity and sufficiency in the state through the revitalisation of the agricultural sector.

The Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Ali Mustapha Goniri, gave the assurance while inspecting an additional forty units of tractors procured by the state government at the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Damaturu.

According to the commissioner, the procurement of additional tractors is part of the complete revitalisation of the agricultural sector by the Buni administration for food security and sufficiency.

 "The procurement of the MF Massey Ferguson tractors was basically to improve crop production for local and national consumption the commissioner added"

He said Yobe is an agrarian state which constitutes a greater percentage of businesses of the people, assuring the government's total commitment towards enhancing agricultural activities Goniri assured.

The commissioner used the medium and appreciated the giant strides made by Governor Mai Mala Buni in the agricultural sector by providing farming implements to farmers across the state.

Ali Mustapha Goniri appealed to the people of the state and the country, in general, to rally around Buni's administration for revitalisation and development of the agricultural sector to improve food security and sufficiency not only in Yobe but in Nigeria at large.

The commissioner assured that all the one hundred and forty tractors procured by the state government will be taken to the various zonal offices in Nguru, Bade, Potiskum and Damaturu local governments, respectively.

According to the commissioner, Governor Buni has directed that none of these tractors would leave the state, adding that the tractors procured for the people of the state would be distributed across the seventeen local government areas.

He assured that the ministry would develop a maintenance system by initiating maintenance units across the local government areas of the state to ensure proper utilisation.

It could be recalled that some months ago Governor Mai Mala Buni procured one hundred tractors for onward distribution to farmers across the state aimed at improving food security and sufficiency.
