Jigawa-Plane sets to tackle risks facing school children.

Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with PLANE, have conducted a quarterly meeting with Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) officials to review performances around safeguarding and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) responsiveness implementation.
The program which held at Jigawa state Hotels limited on Monday February 17th 2025, aimed to identify challenges, share best practices, and facilitate peer learning with non-intervention LGAs.
The initiative is part of PLANE's efforts to strengthen, broaden, and deepen the capacity of stakeholders on safeguarding and GESI responsiveness. Jigawa State Government has been providing an enabling environment for mainstreaming GESI and safeguarding within schools and communities.
The quarterly meeting focuses on strengthening the capacity of stakeholders to identify risks at home and schools that may hinder pupils from attending school. A simple mitigation strategy have been developed with realistic actions and targets by the participants.
The Plane Safeguarding Officer Jimmai Joseph, Objectives of the meeting is to Strengthen capacity of stakeholders on safeguarding and GESI responsiveness, Enhance community engagement, coordination, and collaboration to address risks faced by children, Develop LGA-specific strategies to mitigate risks.
The expected Outcomes is to Shared understanding among participants on risks pupils face at home and school, Strengthened capacity of stakeholders on constructive community engagement and collaboration, Identification of risks and development of LGA-specific responsiveness strategies, Enhanced synergy between government and non-state schools.
The meeting brought together Education Secretaries, Senior SSOs, Ward Development Committee members, Gender Desk officers, and SBMC members from seven PLANE-supported LGAs, as well as representatives from LAFIYA, AGILE, PACE, and Save the Children.
