In a goodwill message, Mr. Rahama Rihood Mohammed Farah, Chief of UNICEF Field Office in Kano, represented by Micheal Banda, commended the Jigawa State Government on the successful completion of the Jigawa General Household Survey. The survey, which was launched on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, provides valuable data on the welfare of children and vulnerable groups in the state.

Fara said the survey's findings reveal a sobering reality: 89.4% of children in Jigawa experience monetary poverty, while 85.6% face multidimensional poverty, lacking access to essential services like healthcare, education, and sanitation.

According to him, these statistics underscore the need for collaborative efforts to address child poverty and improve the well-being of Jigawa's children. "To strengthen their collective efforts, UNICEF seeks the state government's support in implementing several key measures, including: Utilization of Local Government Data, using data to inform planning and decision-making, structured Social Protection InterventionsInterventions.

Also Targeting poor and vulnerable children, social Protection Policy and Legislation, approving and passing revised social protection policies and bills, increased Budgetary Allocations, for child-specific programming across social sectors, scaling up Birth Registration, and ncreasing birth registration rates for children under five by at least 30%"Rahama stated.

The successful launch and dissemination of the Jigawa General Household Survey Report mark a significant step towards realizing the rights of every child in Jigawa State.
