In a bid to promote research and development in the pharmaceutical sciences, the Federal University Dutse (FUD) has established a cutting-edge Drug Design, Molecular Modeling Laboratory and Toxicology Center.
The laboratory, which is the first of its kind in the region, is equipped with modern facilities and equipment, including computer-aided drug design software, molecular modeling tools, and toxicology testing equipment.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, the establishment of the laboratory is a significant milestone in the university's quest to become a center of excellence in pharmaceutical research.
"The laboratory will provide a platform for our researchers to conduct cutting-edge research in drug design, molecular modeling, and toxicology," Professor Mohammed said. "It will also provide opportunities for collaboration with industry partners, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector."
The laboratory is expected to have a significant impact on the development of new drugs and therapies, as well as the improvement of existing ones. It will also provide training and capacity-building opportunities for students, researchers, and professionals in the pharmaceutical sector.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Muhammad Musa, said that the laboratory will focus on the design and development of new drugs, as well as the improvement of existing ones.
"We will be working on the design and development of new drugs, using computer-aided drug design software and molecular modeling tools," Professor Musa said. "We will also be conducting toxicology testing to ensure that the drugs are safe for human use."
The establishment of the laboratory is a significant achievement for the university, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the pharmaceutical sector in Nigeria and beyond.
